Regarding Our Lives in Europe Tlačiť

When during last summer holidays we learnt the pleasant message that the Project ROLE and among other schools also ours was accepted, we had been looking forward to the first meeting.

It was supposed to be held in Turkey, but unfortunately, the Turkish school was rejected, and similarly the schools in Lithuania, Romania and Italy, and so now only five schools participate in multilateral schoolpartnership, namely our Business Academy in Povazska Bystrica, Dutch Roc van Twente in Hengelo, English Northumberland College in Ashington, Danish Uddannelsescenter Holstebro and German SZ Walliser Straße in Bremen.

The meeting agenda was prepared by Mr Gerard Stok, the Dutch teacher and the coordinator of the project, who is well-known to our colleagues and students thanks to the exchange trips organized by our and Dutch schools.

After being welcomed by the director of the school and then guided tour round the ultramodern school building of Roc van Twente we focused on our job – working out detailed tasks which have to be done during the first year of the project. (The whole project will last two years.) The students will work out their personal profiles, which they upload on the website by the second half of December. The task of creating a website will be done by the Dutch school. in the second half of November. Later on, after working out personal profiles, the students will work in small groups on the projects in which they will shortly introduce their schools, the way of spending their free time, where and how they work after the lessons and during weekends, when and how they spend the money they have earned. The best presentations will be introduced at the meeting of teachers and students in Považska Bystrica in May 2012.

Except setting down the mentioned tasks we had an opportunity to know not only the town of Hengelo, the seat of the school, but also the nearby city of Enschede and to visit the Open-air Museum near Arnhem. by the way, in Dutch it is called Openluchtmuseum. It showed us how people lived in Holland in the past, and also the opportunity to know typical Dutch buildings, e. g. farmers´ houses, windmills, brewery, cheese factory, but also the house of immigrants from Indonesia, the former Dutch colony. It was an interesting trip and as the weather was fine, we all enjoyed not only the walking in the beautiful scenery, but also the ride in an old tram that supports the old atmosphere.
The meeting finished on Friday and now the teachers have to choose the classes that will participate in the Project Role and the best of the students will have the opportunity to present their opinions and ideas at the next meeting in Povazska Bystrica.
We are sure this project will bring the students the chance to learn more about the life of young people in the European countries, improve their knowledge of English and ICT, and make new friendships that nowadays can be kept also on social networks.
